DREAMTIME AND SYMBOLISM

Much inspiration is found in my dreams, sometimes realistic, sometimes symbolic. Often the dreams have been so explicit, that the route to creating the image is already  mapped out.
My designs are constructed in a similar way, in relation to the wishes of the client.
The image lives somewhere in the twilight of consciousness and subconsciousness, as if it has been there all the time, only waiting to be called into existence.
So there is no painstaking process of thinking involved, just tuning in and enjoying the painting as it unfolds, to go with the flow..

The central part of this painting was used as illustration for the rune 'Perth" in the rune game "Gords Dilemma" by Sonja Muller

Another way to create symbolic paintings is by Encaustic. This is an old Egyptian technique with colored wax, melted in characteristic patterns. Very beautiful to witness while working. To decide what to keep and what to let go is the difficult part... but isn't that always the case?
